Benoît Montigné is an interaction designer, teacher, and associate researcher with the Reflective Interaction group at EnsadLab, as well as an associate member of the SACRe laboratory (Sciences, Arts, Création, Recherche). Holding a PhD in Art from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, his research explores the relationships between image and sound in art in the digital age. The experimental interfaces he designs and develops aim to explore the potential of visual and sonic creation, while critically examining the mechanisms of new technologies such as multimodal artificial intelligence. His research interests include sonification and visualization, visual music, generative movement, voice and face, surveillance, and the materiality of the digital.
Since 2005, he has taught interactivity and creative coding at the École des Arts Décoratifs – PSL, within the Graphic Design department. In this context, he co-leads, with Elsa Aupetit, the Whole Web Catalog project, which seeks to catalog the diversity of contemporary interactive and digital practices through encounters between students and artists, designers, and researchers. He regularly leads workshops on artificial intelligence and interactive narratives. He was a member of the “Formes du mouvement” research group at EnsadLab. He has taught audiovisual arts at Université Paris 8 and sound arts at Université Paris 3 – Sorbonne Nouvelle, in the form of a lecture course. He also taught interactivity at the Medialab of Sciences Po as part of Bruno Latour’s “Cartographie des controverses” course. He is part of the multidisciplinary thematic network SON:S, launched by the Institut des sciences humaines et sociales of the CNRS. From 2012 to 2024, he created and managed the website Sonore Visuel, dedicated to the news and history of audiovisual arts.
In the field of design, he has worked for numerous institutions such as Théâtre de la Colline, Théâtre Ouvert, Ircam, and Gaîté Lyrique, as well as for various artists and designers including Ocean Viva Silver, Karine Bonneval, and Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance. He lives and works in Paris.
