Benoît Renaudin

Designer, musician, performer, and scenographer, Benoît Renaudin thrives across a wide range of projects. Based between Geneva and Paris, he favours interdisciplinary work, imagining and creating interactive and performative objects for design, theatre, and sound art.

After graduating in journalism from IJBA (Bordeaux, France) and working for several years in cultural press, he returned to study at HEAD – Geneva, earning his Master’s degree in Media Design in 2017.

As an associate researcher at HEAD – Geneva from 2018 to 2023, he conducted several research projects on performative objects, card games, and the emotional dimensions of climate change.

In 2024, he began a practice-based doctoral research in design at the SACRe laboratory (ENS – PSL). He is currently affiliated with the Reflective Interaction group at EnsadLab and the Institute for Research in Art and Design at HEAD – Geneva. His situated doctoral work investigates the designer’s relationship to the field, confronting the artificiality of our river landscapes through the creation of interactive and critical sound devices: the porte-voix of the Boiron, a river in the Lake Geneva basin.

An experimental musician and instrument designer, he pursues personal projects including the sound installation Flûtes ! composed of 100 recorders (Archipel, Klang Moor Shopfe, Ensemble Vortex), the lecture-performance J’Irai construire une cabane aux confins de l’espace (Fête du Théâtre, Geneva), the sound installation Murmures (Milan Salone del Mobile 2017, Design Days Geneva 2017, Art@GIF 2017 at the UN), the sound game Prométhée (White Night Moscow 2016, Ludicious 2017, Tous Ecrans 2016), and the interactive treasure hunt Août (1 August 2018, Parc Lagrange, Geneva).

He also works in duo with director Isis Fahmy, co-creating in 2026 Futur[s], a mixed reality performance (Malraux – Scène nationale de Chambéry, Meyrin, D-caf 2026). In 2023, he co-signed Lavinia (Performance – Motion Capture), a theatre piece inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s novel (Grange de Dorigny – Biennale art/science September 2023, GIFF 2023, Théâtre Hexagone – Meilhan – Scène Nationale Art Science 2023–24). Together they also created Des Place[s], inspired by Georges Perec’s An Attempt at Exhausting a Place in Paris, a collective public performance with augmented reality (Comédie de Genève, GIFF 2021, Digidays Chur, Forum des Halles – Paris, Théâtre Forum-Meyrin, Experimenta Biennale Grenoble). In 2016 and 2017, he created the performance HORDE with Compagnie IF, designing the instruments for the piece (Festival de la Cité 2017, Lieu Unique, Nantes 2018).

Since 2015, he has also collaborated in Switzerland with directors, musicians, composers, and other designers: Ensemble Vortex, Ensemble Contrechamps, Fanfare du Loup, Collectif Ouinch Ouinch, Collectif Thérèse, Transmii Studio, Kevin Juillerat, Julien Mégroz, Chloë Lombard, Cie Too Hot Too Hoot, Jean-Louis Johannides, Transmii Studio…
